If elected, I will work very hard to control state spending and to improve education.

Male, age 58 , Married to Linda for 37 years with three grown children, Chris, Erin and Ryan. Linda and I live at 3514 SW Edgewood Lane in Ankeny. I have been a school administrator in Ankeny since 1979. I grew up in Des Moines and graduated in 1972 from Dowling HS, Des Moines

Director of Community Education in Eastern Rural Iowa Consortium for three years.

Director of Community Education for Ankeny Community Schools for 29 years

Civic (past and present organizations, charities involvement)

I have served on over 20 important local boards and councils in my service to the Ankeny area. I am honored to be the 2003 Ankeny Citizen of the Year as awarded by the Ankeny Chamber of Commerce.

As a state legislator, I serve as the voting member on the Iowa Early Access Council and represent the Iowa House on the following state or county committees: State Child Care Advisory Council, Iowa Tobacco Commission, Polk County Health Services Board, and Health Career Advisory Council

First Elected as a State Legislator in 2008. I currently Chair the Iowa House Ethics Committee and have served on Education, Education Appropriations, Human Resources, State Govt., and Transportation.

Prior to public elections I served as the Chair of Legislative Committee for one national organization and two state education groups, namely, the National Community Education Association, Iowa Community Education Association, and Iowa Afterschool Alliance.

I was a Republican Delegate from Ankeny to the Polk County and State conventions, twice in the 1980's

Childhood member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Des Moines.

Currently an active member and on the Elder Board of the Ankeny Evangelical Free Church.

I am Pro Life. I support the state constitutional amendment to recognize and legally define Marriage as a union and covenant between one man and one woman.

Legislator of the Year for 2009, Iowa Fraternal Insurance Congress, andalso in 2001 by the Iowa Library Association.

President, National Community Education Association, 2004 (NCEA is based in Washington DC)

Co-Chair of the Polk County Sesquicentennial Commission, 1991-1995

Past President of Iowa Dollars for Scholars Board

Post graduate work is with University of Iowa, where I completed my BA in Math in 1976.

Why I Am Running for Public Office

I have worked hard for Iowans to balance the state budget, spend less than we take in. I will continue to serve Citizen requests for reasonable reply and treatment from every agency of State Government. It has been my privilege to Represent the Citizen view in numerous challenges faced by the individuals I am elected to serve.

Goals If Elected

After thanking the local voters, I will again pursue non paritisan legislative activity and state leadership. I will be a Leader Who Listens and applies new learning to faithfully serve the communities of Ankeny and Saydel within our state legislative. I aspire to again serve at the Capitol as a Chair of a Committee for the Iowa House.

Iowa Economy, a General Statement

Jobs are the key ingredient to stimulatin Iowa's economy. State taxation obstructs business growth and must be controlled. I support Iowa's Right To Work laws!

Iowa Taxes, a General Statement

Since the last election, the state budget has increased by One Billion Dollars, over 17 %. This is intolerable in today's economy or at any time. I will fight to control state taxes and limit the role of government.

Iowa Community Colleges

I am an avid supporter of the State Community Colleges. All three of my kids received significznt advancement toward their current careers through Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). My wife teaches at DMACC.

City Librries are the most common vehicle to further autonomous learning or individual education service at the community level.

Iowa Student Loans, and Scholarships

My service within local Dollars for Scholars includes chapter leadership to raise over one half million dollars together. These doallars were awarded to over 1,500 Ankeny HS graduates. I believe in hard work to help interested students to have the opportunity to advanc eeducation beyond HS.
